Taboga Island, at only 30 minutes from the city by Ferry, offers precisely that; a whole day of relaxing and rest. Everything starts upon you embark. You pass by the buoys of the Panama Canal that signal the channel that ships must pass on their transit. Seagulls and other seabirds and maybe even dolphins follow your ship on your way and back from the island. Upon reaching the island you can choose to head for the beach and lay on a chair under the shade of an umbrella or go for a swim at the beach. Or you can decide to walk on its narrow streets and visit its church, the oldest on a Pacific island. Or walk over the sand of a beach that unites Taboga island with a smaller island when the tide is low but is covered by the sea when the tide is high. In this little island used to be The Pacific Steam Navigation Company, the biggest shipping company in the world. And you can still see some of the structure of the dock, as well as the wheel that propelled the ships and a big anchor.
